When I think of Emma, I think of the gracious lady who shared carpool
rides with me and our gang to SAQA (Studio Art Quilts Associates)
meetings. Others have noted what a snazzy dresser she was, what great
stories she told, how generous she was, and how thankful she was to have
people to carpool with. Emma is all those things to me PLUS . . .
. . . I will never forget our political and religious differences and
how she taught me that we can all rise above those differences and treat
each other as the beautiful human beings we all are. There is such a
thing as civil discourse, and I have Emma to thank for showing me how it
can beautifully it can be done.
. . . when I went to visit Emma last Thursday, her final project was
sitting on her cutting board - the art quilt challenge she was working
on for the Folsom Quilt Guild. She had engaged me and Deb (the
Pixeladies) a few times to print fabric for her for this challenge.
This year was to be a wonderful Grant Wood reproduction of a gray-haired
woman sitting in a rocker sewing on a pair of jeans. Emma had planned
down to the last drop how it would look and how she would execute her
project. I will always regret not seeing this project completed, but I
can see it in my heart and am grateful I had these times with Emma.
All my Love, Kris Sazaki
