Sock stories

I've known Emma for about 20 years and the thing that I'll always remember - besides her great, giving spirit - is her socks.

One evening, while she was president of the Folsom Guild, Emma had to tell us all the story about going out to get the mail.  It seems that she arrived at the same time as the mailman and she was all dressed to go to her guild meeting.  The mailman looked her up and down, particularly at her green stockings and asked her, "You do know that it is not Halloween?"

The second sock story was when a group of us went to a NCQC meeting and then had lunch at P.F.Chang's in Walnut Creek.  We were all waiting in the entrance for a table when Emma stepped up to the hostess and asked where the restroom was located.  She was given directions but we all noticed that the hostess looked her up and down with a strange expression as she walked away.  Emma was wearing one of her favorite outfits with argyle kneesocks.  A few minutes later we were called for our table.  We looked around for Emma.  The hostess asked, "Are you looking for the lady with the kneesocks?"  Of course we were.  Later when we told Emma that the hostess had made note of her socks she had a good laugh.

It was fun to see what new outfit Emma would create for the Garment Challenge each year -  beautifully made, very distinctive outfits with full accessories.  Of course they were all 'Emma' and we loved them just as we loved her.  We will miss this wonderful person and her (just slightly) outrageous outfits - especially the socks!.

What is Your Emma Story?

This blog is a chance to remember and honor Emma by bringing us together in a way that can only be done through a medium like the internet. We love her, we will miss her, but she's here for a short time still, and we want to smile and cry and laugh together with her as much as possible while we can.

Emma has touched a monumental number of lives through her work as a mother, grandmother, friend, teacher, artist, and to Ted as a dear wife. There are countless stories that have already been told many times, and there are many others that we're going to learn for the first time as we read them here.

PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS, STORIES AND PICTURES!!!

Not only will we be able to laugh and smile together, even after Emma has passed, but we will be sharing this blog with Emma. If you have a story, long or short, silly or sad, pensive or outrageous, please take some time and share it with us and Emma.

This is such a dear time for all of us. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and prayers.

It's easy! To post to Emma's blog, send an email to emmaallebes.post@blogger.com. If you have a picture(s) that you would like to add, make it an attachment to the email. Your email will post automatically.

Please remember to include your name somewhere in the email/post.
