I was saddened by the news of Emma's cancer and was very surprised at how quickly she passed. My first interaction with Emma was at a SAQA meeting in Sacramento. After seeing the unveiling of a whisper quilt challenge that Nancy McDonald had participated in I approached Emma and asked if she would like to participate in a 5 person whisper challenge (2007). Of course I was delighted that she said yes. I was number one, she was number two so I handed-off my quilt to her when we met at Tayo's. Number three followed and numbers 4 and 5 fizzled. Emma had her quilt sold within days of completing it. I am so please to have had a chance to interact with Emma and of course am saddened that our lives intertwined for only minutes. Emma was a great lady and artist and will surely be remembered for a very long time.
