HELP - WE NEED BLACK & WHITE CHECKED RIBBON OR FABRIC

We need help! You know Mom - she's always been so excited that she'll have Black & White checked ribbon on the flowers at her funeral. Now that time has come and the florist doesn't have that available. So - as her family, we're calling for help from her creative friends!

You can read our dilemna with finding B & W checked ribbon. If you happen to HAVE any large B & W checkered fabric (not gingham - checks - you KNOW Mom would know the difference!) or know of someone that would have something like that in their own stash or can check with any local fabric sources (sometimes that B & W large check is not the best quality fab so maybe even Joanns, Hancocks, etc). Of course, ribbon would still be the best!

We'll reimburse you - if Mom's friends can do the 'leg work' - that would be so amazing and wonderfully helpful!

thank you again!

Here's what I'm thinking we need:

Black & White checks about 1", probably 3" wide ribbon - that's the width the florist usually uses. I KNOW I've seen fabric like this - I even had some at Tayo's in the past - but of course I don't currently have any of my own. They said about 8 yards of ribbons was needed for a good bow....

Mom talked for years about having her funeral plans all arranged. We met yesterday with the director of the funeral home and of course he had in his notes from previous meetings with Mom & Dad that Mom wanted Black & White checkered ribbon on her flowers. He said he would check with the florist to make sure they could get that....I wasn't surprised when he came back and said that it just wasn't available. But - I know how important this has always been to Mom - and of course, Dad does also!

So - we WILL have Black and White checkered ribbons on Mom's flowers - somehow! Finding the ribbons would be amazing (but frankly not very likely I fear), finding fabric we could cut into strips and make into ribbon is probably the simplest - if we can find it quickly. Then we'll have to stiffen it up also...do they still have that stuff available called 'Stiffy'? If not, Dad will definitely paint white ribbon with large black checks....he will do anything necessary to make his Sweetheart happy, even now! She's still calling the shots!

Just FYI - if you DO find some fabric or ribbon - buy a bunch! We'll definitely reimburse you. We MUST have the B & W check ribbon on the flowers from the family...and that's probably all that Dad would paint. But if we can find B & W checked ribbon or fabric (to strip and make into ribbon), I'd LOVE to have the florist make a bunch of extra big bows that we can just stick into other flower arrangements that are sent. Wouldn't Mom love that? B & W checks all over....I'm sure she's cheering us all on!

Please call me on my cell - 225-4611 to keep in touch with the progress. If the search IS successful - we'd want to let others know so they can get on with other things in their own lives!

Hugs and Huge Thank Yous!

What is Your Emma Story?

This blog is a chance to remember and honor Emma by bringing us together in a way that can only be done through a medium like the internet. We love her, we will miss her, but she's here for a short time still, and we want to smile and cry and laugh together with her as much as possible while we can.

Emma has touched a monumental number of lives through her work as a mother, grandmother, friend, teacher, artist, and to Ted as a dear wife. There are countless stories that have already been told many times, and there are many others that we're going to learn for the first time as we read them here.

PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS, STORIES AND PICTURES!!!

Not only will we be able to laugh and smile together, even after Emma has passed, but we will be sharing this blog with Emma. If you have a story, long or short, silly or sad, pensive or outrageous, please take some time and share it with us and Emma.

This is such a dear time for all of us. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and prayers.

It's easy! To post to Emma's blog, send an email to emmaallebes.post@blogger.com. If you have a picture(s) that you would like to add, make it an attachment to the email. Your email will post automatically.
